Book Signing: Thousand-Year Statehouse December 11, 2-4 PM

Thousand-Year Statehouse details the planning, construction and subsequent history of the art and architecture of Illinois State Capitol in 258 pages, richly illustrated with 150 full page, color photos. Close up, detailed photographs, as well as historic plans, illustrations and photographs present a tour of the capitol from its basement tunnels to the heights of its soaring dome in lavish detail.

Thousand-Year Statehouse also provides a wonderfully researched and insightful written history of the planning and construction of the capitol building, from the early designs submitted by French architect Alfred H. Piquenard and Chicago architect John C. Cochrane, shortly after the Civil War, to its eventual completion in 1888 by William W. Boyington. Finnigan takes his readers on a lively tour of the process of designing and building such a structure, and uncovers the Classical and European precedents that inspired the design.

He currently works for Graham and Hyde Architects, Springfield. He previously worked for FWAI Architects and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
