First Christmas at the Dana House

The house Frank Lloyd Wright designed for Susan Lawrence Dana allowed her to entertain on a grand scale. As her new home was nearing completion in December 1904, Mrs. Dana hosted a series of parties, receptions and fundraisers for charity that lasted 9 days. Author, Roberta Volkmann shares memories of the first Christmas season at the Dana House.

The grand celebrations at the Dana House were often catered by Maldaner’s Restaurant, one of the oldest dining establishments in Springfield, Illinois. Join Chef Higgins at the Dana-Thomas House Foundation’s 2020 virtual holiday event where he hosted a cooking demonstration by making Maldaner’s popular crab cakes. Cook along with Chef Higgins as he creates this amazing dish. In addition, he shares the connection of Maldaner’s Restaurant to Susan Lawrence-Dana who who often had Maldaner’s cater her events at the Dana-Thomas House in the early 1900’s.
